ScholarScan is operated by Springboard LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use ScholarScan at scholarscan.ai. We take your privacy seriously — especially because many of our users are students, including minors.
By using ScholarScan, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.
When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials via Clerk, our authentication provider. We do not store passwords directly.
To match you with scholarships, we collect profile information including your name, school, state, year in school, GPA range, major, career goals, and extracurricular activities. We also optionally collect demographic information — including gender, race/ethnicity, financial need, first-generation student status, disability status, and military connection — solely to help identify scholarships you may uniquely qualify for.
This demographic data is sensitive. We collect it only because many scholarships have specific eligibility requirements based on these attributes. You may leave any demographic field blank.
We store your scholarship search history and results so you can access them later. This includes the scholarships returned, match scores, and any application tracking you add.
We collect standard web analytics data including pages visited, features used, and session information via Google Analytics. This data is aggregated and used to improve the product.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with scholarship providers or any third parties for marketing purposes.
ScholarScan uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power scholarship searches. When you run a search, your profile data is sent to Anthropic's API to generate scholarship recommendations. Anthropic processes this data subject to their own privacy policy and data handling terms.
We do not use your data to train AI models. Your profile data is used only to generate your specific scholarship search results.
We use the following third-party services to operate ScholarScan:
When you delete your account, we anonymize your personal data. Your email address is replaced with an anonymized identifier, and your profile data is removed. Anonymized usage records (searches run, scholarships found) may be retained in aggregate for product analytics, but cannot be linked back to you.
To request deletion of your account and data, email us at hello@scholarscan.ai. We will process your request within 30 days.
ScholarScan is used by high school students, some of whom may be under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use ScholarScan.
For users between 13 and 17, we recommend parental awareness of the demographic data collected for scholarship matching purposes. Parents may request deletion of a minor's account by contacting us at hello@scholarscan.ai.
We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication (via Clerk) and analytics (via Google Analytics). Authentication cookies are required for the service to function. Analytics cookies can be blocked via your browser settings or a browser extension without affecting core functionality.

We may update this policy as our service evolves. We will notify users of material changes via email or a notice on the site. Continued use of ScholarScan after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
